Merritt & Harris is excited to have been chosen to provide consulting services in the initial stages of one of the most exciting projects coming to fruition in the city, the new Cornell Tech campus being built on Roosevelt Island. Cornell West will be a state of the art, world-class technology facility, bringing together members of the corporate world with researchers and teachers to bring future technology to the world at an accelerated pace. The campus will include:

  • The Bloomberg Center – an academic facility for research and learning
  • The Bridge at Cornell Tech – a corporate co-location building where established or fledgling tech companies will work side by side with academic researchers
  • The Verizon Executive Education Center – a place for the tech community to gather for conferences and meetings
  • Residential Building – 350 residences for students, staff and faculty (tallest building at 270 feet)

When the campus opens in 2017 there will be 2.5 acres of open space facing both sides of the east river, and buildings containing nearly 800,000 sq. ft., serving a population of 600 people. When completed in 2043 it will encompass some 12 acres containing 2,000,000 sq. ft. of buildings serving a community of 2,500.

As can be expected from such a facility, reduction of energy usage and carbon emissions will be a focus of the design. The Residential Building alone is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 882 tons.

Merritt & Harris’ main branch is located in New York City, giving us particular affinity for this project, and we are grateful to have been chosen by Bank of America to provide consulting services for their participation in the project.
