Job Description:

The Mechanical Engineer will perform both up-front Construction Review Reports and Property Condition Assessment (PCA) assignments(existing buildings), as well as special services related to energy conservation and sustainability.

Assignments typically involve the review of the design of mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems, including their life safety components and sustainable aspects. Construction projects involve the design review of contract drawings and specifications. PCA assignments require an evaluation of the systems and equipment along with repair records, and capital improvement budgets. The Mechanical Engineer will provide a written report describing the proposed systems with commentary on the appropriateness and adequacy of the systems in the case of a Construction assignment; and a written report describing the installed systems with comments on the appropriateness and adequacy of the systems for a PCA assignment. The PCA report will also include the cost of replacing older equipment and other recommended costs over various periods of time. Special assignments may involve energy audits and retro-commissioning as well as resiliency strategies.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) degree or similar
  • 5 years of experience in the design or installation of mechanical systems
  • 5 years of experience in field inspection of mechanical systems

Skills and Abilities:

  • Primary background in HVAC; familiarity with the plumbing, electrical& life safety trades
  • Familiarity with the other construction trades, codes and standards
  • Professional Engineering license (P.E.) a plus,or will assist in obtaining
  • LEED accreditation a plus, or will assist in obtaining
  • Energy audit, modeling or retro-commissioning experience a plus
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • A driver’s license and the ability to do some overnight travel
