Based in New York City, Mr. Van Steenbergen is a Vice President with JLL’s Construction Consulting Group, which he joined in 2009.  His responsibilities include reviewing plans and specifications, and on-site monitoring of renovation and new construction projects.

Prior to joining Merritt & Harris, Mr. Van Steenbergen was a Technical Services Engineering Officer with HSH Nordbank from 2007 to 2008.  He evaluated financial and construction risks of lending property portfolios, managed third party due diligence including environmental scopes of work and engineering, reviewed and approved development plans and specifications, project schedules, development agreements, and construction contracts.  He also verified the accuracy of hard and soft cost budgets, and reviewed the terms of retainage, change orders, and stored materials.

From 2006-2007, Mr. Van Steenbergen worked as a Senior Construction Risk Administrator at JP Morgan Chase.  He maintained up to 20-25 commercial draws a month, performed cost and contract reviews, reviewed and negotiated loan agreements, and administered project equity requirements.

From 1998-2006, Mr. Van Steenbergen worked as a Senior Vice President in Real Estate Financing at Bank of America.  His responsibilities included reviewing and approving pre-closing documents, overseeing construction projects, approving monthly funding requests, and managing troubled asset workouts within the Structured Real Estate group.

Mr. Van Steenbergen has a Bachelor of Architecture from New York Institute of Technology, New York.  He is a Registered Architect in the State of New York.
